MEET HOLY YOUTH:PLAYING AT THE BHM FLEA!

Super Excited Holy Youth will be playing the Birmingham Punk Rock Flea Market. The first time I listened to this band was when eyesore records released "It Came From Alabama" Compilation. "Did You Hear" is on that album. Did you hear... that Holy Youth is the bees knees? (to say the least)

Here is a small interview with the band, followed by some links to thier music! Check them out!

Band Members:

Chris McCauley, Stuart Norman, Aaron Gibbs, John Paul Foster (formerly Caroline Sallee and Travis Swinford - we miss y’all!)

How would you explain your band in three adjectives? (feel free to get weird and creative) I just like to describe us as four friends playing rock music.

What are yall currently listening to?

A bunch of old stuff from Flying Nun and Ork Records, a band from Australia called Dick Diver, a band from Denmark called Communions, and the new Angel Olsen record. Icons/Influence?

We all listen different stuff, but I think we can all agree that Yo La Tengo is a pretty solid band. And who doesn’t like Jonathan Richman?

What is the most bizarre thing that has happened while yall were on stage?

Hmm - drawing a blank here. Sorry!

Any shows coming up soon? 10/2 JACUZZI BOYS / HOLY YOUTH / SNACKS at Seasick Records

What is the band working on right now?

We’re working on our second record which we’re calling Heavy Bored. It’s named for a line in a John Berryman poem called “Dream Song 14”. We’re aiming to release it later this year. It’s been a long time coming.

What do y'all do in your SPARE time?

Can’t speak for everybody here, but Chris and I (Stu) have been playing a lot of chess. We still have a lot to learn there though.

What is your all-time favorite album? Chris - Yo La Tengo’s And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out

Stuart - Big Star’s Third/Sister Lovers

Gibbs - Metallica All the albums

John Paul - The Olivia Tremor Control’s Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume One

Holy Youth formed in 2012 when Chris, Caroline, Travis and John Paul started writing and recording music at John Paul’s house in Montevallo, AL. Caroline moved to Texas, and Stuart took her place on guitar. They released their first album in October of 2014. Travis moved to New York, and Gibbs took his place on bass. Their second album Heavy Bored should be finished sometime before the new year. CHECK OUT THE TUNES HERE!!
